Voca is developed by Studio Scale ("we"). We built it to need as little of your data as possible: no account, no sign-up, and we never ask for your name, email, or any other identifying information.
What we don't collect
We do not collect your name, email, phone number, address, contacts, photos, location, or advertising identifiers. We do not profile you or track you across other apps and websites. Voca contains no ads and no advertising SDKs.
Your learning data
Your vocabulary progress, review history, spaced-repetition data, and preferences (difficulty, daily goal, reminders) are stored on your device. Deleting the app removes them.
If you are signed in to iCloud with iCloud Drive enabled for Voca, this data also syncs to your private iCloud database so it is available across your devices. It lives in your own Apple account under Apple's privacy policy — we cannot read, export, or recover it. Turn sync off in your device's iCloud settings at any time.
Reminders, if enabled, are scheduled locally on your device and never pass through our servers.
Analytics
We use one privacy-focused analytics provider, based in the European Union and acting as our data processor, to see how the app is used and where it can be improved.
Sent: anonymous events recording how the app is used — which screens and features you reach, your onboarding choices, and subscription actions such as viewing the paywall or completing a purchase. Each carries a hashed identifier that lets us count distinct installations. It is derived from a device-level value provided by Apple, hashed before transmission, not linked to your name, email, or Apple ID, and reset if you reinstall.
Never sent: the words you study, your answers, your progress or review history, any text you type, your location, your contacts, or any advertising identifier.
Our legal basis under the GDPR is our legitimate interest in maintaining and improving Voca, balanced against the minimal, non-identifying nature of this data. Contact us if you would like to know which provider we currently use.
Purchases
Subscriptions are optional. Apple handles all purchases, renewals, billing, refunds, and payment details. We never receive or store your card details, billing address, or Apple ID — only what is needed to unlock paid features on your device, plus aggregate sales reporting.
Sharing and retention
We do not sell your data or share it with third parties for their own purposes. The only third parties involved are Apple (distribution, purchases, iCloud) and our analytics provider (anonymous usage data), each in the defined role above. We may disclose information where required by law.
Local data stays until you delete it; iCloud data until you remove it from your Apple account. Analytics events are retained only in aggregate and cannot be traced back to an individual, so they cannot be selectively deleted. Our analytics provider processes data in the EU; Apple may process data in the US and elsewhere under its own safeguards.
Your rights
You may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the use of your personal data. Since we hold nothing tied to you, your learning data is already under your control — on your device and in your own iCloud account. If you believe we hold information about you, contact us and we will respond within the timeframes required by law. EU and UK users may also complain to their local data protection authority.
Children
Voca is a general-audience app and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. It requires no account and requests no personal details.
Changes
We may update this policy as the app changes, revising the date above. Material changes will be highlighted here or in the app.
